Your Hiking in Bhutan Tour will begins in Thimphu, the country’s vibrant capital, where traditional customs and a modern vibe easily coexist in a wide river valley framed by mountains. Walking routes are along well-trodden footways between whitewashed farmhouses, villages, monasteries, temples, and Dzongs (former fortresses). The tour culminates in the cultural center of Paro, where you walk up to the most famous monastery in Bhutan, “Tiger’s Nest,” which is dramatically perched on the edge of a cliff.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro - Transfer to Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be transferred to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. After checking in at your hotel and freshening up, you can take a stroll around the city center and explore the local markets.
Day 2: Thimphu - Hike to Cheri Goemba
After breakfast, we will take a short drive to the base of the trail leading to Cheri Goemba, a monastery located in the forest above Thimphu. The hike is approximately 4 hours round trip and offers great views of the surrounding valleys.
Day 3: Thimphu - Punakha
After breakfast, we will drive to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. On the way, we will stop at Dochula Pass (3,100m) to enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayan range. Upon reaching Punakha, we will visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chhu rivers.
Day 4: Khamsung Yuely Namgyel Temple Rafting and Punakha Dzong
After breakfast, we will drive to Khamsung Yuely Namgyel Temple for a short hike to the Chorten Nyingpo monastery. In the afternoon, we will go on a thrilling rafting adventure on the Pho Chhu river. Later, we will visit Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and historically significant dzongs in Bhutan.
Day 5: Punakha - Gangteng Valley
After breakfast, we will drive to Gangteng Valley, located in the district of Wangdue Phodrang. Upon reaching Gangteng, we will go on a short hike to explore the beautiful valley and visit the Gangteng Monastery, which is one of the largest and most important Nyingma monasteries in Bhutan.
Day 6: Gangteng - Thimphu
After breakfast, we will drive back to Thimphu. In the afternoon, we will explore the city and visit some of its popular attractions, including the Buddha Dordenma statue, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Tashichho Dzong.
Day 7: Thimphu - Paro Tiger Nest Hike
After breakfast, we will drive to Paro and go on a hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is one of the most iconic landmarks in Bhutan. The hike is approximately 5 hours round trip and offers stunning views of the Paro valley.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, we will transfer you to Paro International Airport for your onward flight.
