Pune to Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, Radhanagari wildlife Sanctuary and Goa Beach tour will begin with pick up from your Pune hotel/ airport. Explore Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary a natural World Heritage Site on a Jeep Safari, visit Koyna Dam and enjoy boating on Shivsagar Lake within the Sanctuary. Then head to Kolhapur to visit old temple, palaces & museum in the city. Next you will explore the Radhanagari Wild Life Sanctuary again a natural World Heritage Site on Sahyadri sub cluster of Western Ghats. Continue to Goa to visit the old Portuguese colonial churches, temples and beaches. At the end we will drop you off at Goa airport.

 

Day 1: Pune - Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary (200kms/ 4hrs approx)

Pick up from your hotel in Pune or Pune airport and drive to Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary check in at resort/ camp.

Later visit Koyna Dam on the Koyna river. It is one of the most significant dams in India and supplies water to majority parts of Maharashtra. Shivsagar Lake is the reservoir of this dam. It also acts as the main dam for the Koyna Hydroelectric Project. Boating on Shivsagar Lake one among the vast lakes of Maharashtra, has beautiful flora surrounding it, fresh greenery everywhere and calmness around it. Dinner & overnight at hotel.

 

Day 2: Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary - Kolhapur (135kms/ 3hrs approx)

Early breakfast at resort/ camp followed by Jeep Safari. Explore Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary nestled in the beautiful Western Ghats sprawls over an area of about 426.52 sq km. It forms the catchments area for the Koyna River, and the Shivasagar reservoir formed by the Koyna Dam. It is surrounded by natural protective boundaries - Shivasagar Lake on one side, and the slopes of the Western Ghats on both the sides. These geographic barriers have enabled the emergence of a wide variety of flora and fauna and high biodiversity in the sanctuary. Its a known habitat of tigers, leopards, sloth bear, wild dogs, Indian gaur, wild boar, sambar deer, barking deer, mouse deer, and giant squirrels. The forest of Koyna is also home to over 300 species of birds including crusted serpent eagles, paradise fly catcher, yellow footed green pigeon, purple rumped sunbird, scarlet minivets and many more. Due to the wide range of elevations in the sanctuary, the ecoregions in the sanctuary include North Western Ghats montane rain forests above 1,000 m(3,300 ft) and North Western Ghats moist deciduous forests below. Dominant species are Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Ain, Kinjal, Amba, Kumbha, Bhoma, Chandala, Katak, Nana, Umbar, Jambha, Gela and Bibba. Karvi is found almost all over the area.

Afternoon drive to Kolhapur check in at hotel. Rest time free and easy to relax and personal activities. Overnight at hotel.

 

Day 3: Kolhapur - Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary - Goa (265kms/ 5hrs approx)

Early morning leave for safari in Radhanagari Wild Life Sanctuary (Wildlife Sanctuary remain closed on every Tuesday). This is a natural World Heritage Site notified by UNESCO as Sahyadri sub cluster of Western Ghats. The Krishna River tributaries, Bhogavati River, Dudhganga River, Tulshi River, Kallamma River and Dirba River flow through the sanctuary's area. 

Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary contains tropical evergreen forests typical of the northern Western Ghats. 425 species of plants have been recorded in the sanctuary. The main species found over here are Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Ain, Kinjal, Amba, Kumbha, Bhoma, Chandala, Katak, Nana, Umbar, Jambha, Gela, Bibba and banana. Karvi is found over almost the entire area. Climbing plants such as shikekai and garambi are common. Shrub species and medicinal plants such as karvand, vagati (candy corn plant), ranmiri (orange climber), Tamalpatra Cinnamomum tamala, (toran), dhayati (fire-flame bush), kadipatta (curry tree), narkya, murudsheng (Indian screw-fruit) and a small amount of bamboo are also found. Large numbers of ephemeral bulbs of seasonal plants are also found here. Many sacred groves or devrais have been protected as a result of the efforts of the local communities.

Sanctuary contains 47 species of Mammals, 59 species of reptiles, 264 species of birds and 66 species of butterflies. Amphibians are most visible in the rainy season. 20 species from 2 orders, 5 families and 10 genera are listed in the sanctuary. Indian bison or gaur have a population around 610 in 2004, is the flagship species of the area. Other mammals, living in the sanctuary are Indian leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, barking deer, mouse deer, sambar, giant squirrel and wild dogs. Birds seen here include: vultures, eagles, jungle fowl, quails, plovers, sandpipers, owlets, doves, owls, nightjars, kingfishers, bee-eater, hornbills, woodpeckers, bulbul, flycatchers, warblers, wagtails, sunbirds are commonly seen. This sanctuary is designated as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International and is home to the rare and globally threatened Nilgiri wood-pigeon (Columba elphinstonii). Other species found here include the Ceylon frogmouth, yellow-browed bulbul, dusky eagle-owl and great pied hornbill and one of India's most admired songbirds, the Malabar whistlingthrush. Two species endemic to the Western Ghats: the small sunbird and the Malabar grey hornbill have been sighted here. This sanctuary is a favorite nesting place for the speckled piculet, Malabar crested lark, and some species of Himalayan birds such as the Indian blue robin during the winter months.

After safari in Wildlife Sanctuary drive back to Goa, check in at beach resort/ hotel. Rest time free and easy to relax. Overnight at hotel.

 

Day 4: Goa

Breakfast at hotel, city tour of Goa. Visit North Goa Churches Basilica Of Bom Jesus A World Heritage Site, Preserved body of St. Francis Xavier constructed around 1695. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is famous for the preserved mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Se Cathedral Largest church in Asia, giant bells and exquisite architecture. Se Cathedral of Goa is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. Church of St. Francis of Assisi A stunning and charming building, architecture has a combination of Hindu and Christian elements. The Church of St. Francis of Assisi of Goa was built during 1517-1521 AD. Church of St Augustine Ruins 46 meter high tower, the church was built in 1602 with the combined efforts of 12 Augustinians. They also built a convent besides the church. Church of Marry Immaculate Conception one of the most famous landmarks of Goa. This church is supposed to be one of the earliest churches to be constructed in Goa. The Aguada Fort built by the Portuguese commands the mouth of the Mondovi River and on the fort stands a 4-storey Portuguese lighthouse and the oldest of its kind in Asia. Shree Manguesh Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located on a hillock surrounded by lush green hills. Though small, it has an air of distinctive elegance. Its lofty white tower at the entrance is a countryside landmark. Shree Mahalsa A short distance away from the Shri Mangueshi temple, the deity worshiped here is an attribute to Vishnu.

Day 5: Goa
