Day 2: Port Blair City Exploration

After enjoying a hearty breakfast at your hotel, your guided tour of Port Blair's highlights begins. Your first destination is the Cellular Jail (Kalapani). This historic prison, also known as Kalapani, serves as a somber memorial to India's struggle for independence. The structure itself is a marvel, bearing witness to the hardships faced by many during the colonial era.

Next, you'll visit the Japanese Bunkers, remnants from World War II, strategically positioned and still visible across Port Blair. These bunkers stand as silent witnesses to a time of conflict and change in the region.

Your journey then takes you to the Chatham Saw Mill. Established in 1883 under British rule, this mill has a rich history and is recognized as one of Asia's largest and oldest wood processing facilities. The mill provides visitors with a fascinating glimpse into the timber industry's significance during India's pre-independence period.

Continuing your exploration, you'll venture to Chidiya Tapu. This picturesque spot offers breathtaking views of the Andaman coastline and is a paradise for bird enthusiasts. The region is home to over 40 different bird species, making it a must-visit for nature lovers. Don't forget to indulge in the Munda Pahar trek, a scenic 1.5 km trail that offers stunning vistas and the opportunity to collect beautiful star corals and seashells.

As the day winds down, you'll conclude with a visit to the Samudrika Marine Museum. Managed by the Indian Navy, the museum offers a comprehensive look into the Andaman Islands' rich heritage, marine biodiversity, and archaeological treasures. With its diverse collection of marine life, corals, and historical artifacts, it promises to be an enriching experience for visitors of all ages. Overnight stay at your hotel.
