Begin your cultural journey with a visit to the Parasurameshwar, Mukteshwar, Rajarani, and Lingaraj temples, marveling at their exquisite Kalinga-style architecture (note: only Hindus can enter the sanctum of Lingaraj Temple). Later, visit Dhauli, the site where Emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism after the Kalinga war, and explore the Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) built by the Japanese in 1970. See the ancient rock edicts dating from 260 BC, which outline Ashoka’s instructions for fair governance, and explore the Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves, showcasing remarkable Jain and Buddhist art of the 2nd century BC. These hills feature monasteries, chaityas, and stupas, representing the vibrant cultural heritage of ancient Odisha. End the day with a relaxing dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Bhubaneswar
After breakfast, embark on a full-day excursion to the renowned Buddhist sites of Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri, and Udayagiri. Lalitgiri is one of the earliest Buddhist complexes, dating back to the 1st century AD, with a massive brick monastery, chaitya hall remains, and multiple votive stupas set atop a sandstone hill amidst lush greenery. Proceed to Ratnagiri, famous for its scattered Buddhist sculptures and archaeological evidence linking it to the Gupta Dynasty of the 6th century AD. Explore the extensive monastery ruins, which highlight the widespread influence of Buddhism in the region during King Ashoka’s era. Udayagiri also offers fascinating relics and monuments that provide insight into the spread of Buddhism and Jainism in Odisha. Return to Bhubaneswar in the evening and enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Bhubaneswar - Puri (65kms)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before driving to Puri, stopping en route at Pipili, a town celebrated for its traditional appliqué work. Explore the creation of colorful Chandua, umbrellas, wall hangings, garments, and other handcrafted items that are famous both in India and abroad. Continue to Raghurajpur, a heritage crafts village home to approximately 500 Chitrakars, skilled in Pattachitra painting on cloth, palm leaves, coconuts, and clay pots. Visit the magnificent Konark Sun Temple, the serene Ramchandi Temple, and Chandrabhaga Beach for a mix of cultural and coastal experiences. Upon arrival in Puri, check in to the hotel and in the evening visit the Lord Jagannath Temple (only Hindus can enter the sanctum), immersing in the spiritual ambiance. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4: Puri
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel and spend a full day relaxing on Puri’s golden sandy beaches. Enjoy the tranquil waves, sunbathing, and leisurely walks along the coastline. For those interested, optional activities include exploring local shops, savoring coastal cuisine, or simply enjoying the serene environment. The day is perfect for unwinding, taking photographs, and soaking in the scenic beauty of the Bay of Bengal. Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Puri
After breakfast, take an excursion to Chilika Lake, the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest brackish water lagoon in the world. The lake is a UNESCO tentative World Heritage site and serves as a critical habitat for over 160 species of migratory birds traveling from regions as far as Russia, Central Asia, and the Himalayas. Enjoy a pleasant boat ride through the lagoon, observing the colorful flocks of birds and the lively fishing communities that sustain over 150,000 people in 132 villages along the shores. Explore the unique ecosystem, rich in fishery resources and natural beauty, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. Return to Puri for leisure time, followed by dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
