Day 1: Mumbai – Lonavala – Pune (Approx. 170 kms / 4–5 hrs drive)

Your journey begins from Mumbai as you drive towards Pune via the scenic hill retreat of Lonavala, located amidst the lush landscapes of the Western Ghats. The route is filled with winding mountain roads, mist-covered valleys, waterfalls during the monsoon season, and panoramic viewpoints that make this one of Maharashtra’s most picturesque drives.

En route, stop at popular viewpoints such as Tiger Point and Lion’s Point, offering spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Continue to explore the ancient Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves, and Bedse Caves, renowned for their remarkable Buddhist rock-cut architecture dating back over two thousand years. These caves feature beautifully carved prayer halls, meditation chambers, stupas, and ancient inscriptions reflecting the spiritual and artistic traditions of early Buddhism.

Later, continue your drive to Pune, often referred to as the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel. The remainder of the evening is free to relax or enjoy Pune’s lively café culture and local markets at leisure.

Day 2: Pune – Aurangabad (Approx. 240 kms / 5–6 hrs drive)

After breakfast, begin a sightseeing tour of Pune, a city deeply connected with the Maratha Empire and India’s freedom movement.

Visit Shaniwar Wada, the historic residence of the Peshwas known for its grand gateways and fascinating history. Continue to Aga Khan Palace, an important landmark associated with Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian independence movement. Explore the impressive Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, home to a remarkable collection of traditional Indian artifacts, sculptures, musical instruments, and decorative arts gathered from across the country.

Later, drive towards Aurangabad (officially Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), passing through rural landscapes, sugarcane plantations, and small villages that offer glimpses into everyday life in Maharashtra.

Upon arrival in Aurangabad, check in at your hotel and relax after the journey. Evening free for leisure or optional visit to local markets famous for traditional Paithani sarees and Himroo textiles.

Day 3: Ellora Caves, Grishneshwar Temple & Aurangabad Sightseeing (Approx. 30 kms / 45 mins one way)

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day excursion to the extraordinary Ellora Caves, one of India’s most impressive UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Ellora cave complex consists of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain cave temples carved between the 6th and 10th centuries, reflecting centuries of religious harmony and artistic excellence. The highlight of the visit is the magnificent Kailasa Temple, an awe-inspiring monolithic structure carved entirely from a single rock. The temple is admired worldwide for its scale, architectural precision, and intricate stone carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

En route, visit the sacred Grishneshwar Temple, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. Continue to the historic Daulatabad Fort, a strategically built hilltop fortress famous for its defensive architecture, massive gateways, and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.

Later, return to Aurangabad and explore Bibi Ka Maqbara, often referred to as the “Mini Taj Mahal” because of its elegant Mughal architecture and landscaped gardens. Continue to Panchakki, an ingenious medieval water-powered mill system demonstrating advanced engineering techniques of the Mughal era.

If time permits, also visit the Aurangabad Caves, located on a hillside overlooking the city.

Day 4: Excursion to Ajanta Caves & Local Market Experience (Approx. 100 kms / 2 hrs each way)

After an early breakfast, drive through scenic countryside to the world-famous Ajanta Caves, beautifully situated within a horseshoe-shaped gorge surrounded by forested hills.

Dating back to the 2nd century BCE, Ajanta is internationally celebrated for its exceptional Buddhist murals, fresco paintings, sculptures, and monastic cave complexes. The caves contain some of the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian art, depicting stories from the life of Lord Buddha and scenes from the Jataka tales through vivid paintings and intricate carvings.

As you explore the caves with your guide, learn about the spiritual significance, artistic techniques, and historical importance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The peaceful surroundings and artistic brilliance create a truly unforgettable cultural experience.

Later, return to Aurangabad and enjoy a visit to local markets such as Gul Mandi and Nirala Bazaar. These markets are well known for Paithani silk sarees, Himroo shawls, handicrafts, jewelry, and traditional textiles unique to the region.

Day 5: Aurangabad – Mumbai by Fast AC Train / Flight

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to the railway station or airport for your onward journey to Mumbai.

You may travel by fast air-conditioned train such as the Vande Bharat Express or choose a short domestic flight to Mumbai depending on your preference. Upon arrival in Mumbai, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel, airport, or preferred location.
