Day 1: Mumbai to Aurangabad by Train

After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Mumbai and transfer to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to board your train to Aurangabad (officially Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar).

Day 2: Excursion to Ajanta Caves

After an early breakfast, drive approximately 100 kms (about 2 hours) to the world-renowned Ajanta Caves, nestled in a scenic horseshoe-shaped valley surrounded by forested hills.

On arrival, proceed by eco-friendly shuttle/battery bus to the cave complex. These UNESCO World Heritage caves date back to the 2nd century BCE and are among the finest surviving examples of ancient Buddhist art and architecture.

With your expert guide, explore key caves such as Cave 1, 2, 16, and 17, famous for their exquisite fresco paintings, detailed carvings, and beautifully sculpted figures depicting the life of Lord Buddha and stories from the Jataka tales. The caves also feature prayer halls (chaityas) and monasteries (viharas), reflecting the spiritual and artistic excellence of ancient India.

After ample time at the site, return to the parking area and drive back to Aurangabad.

In the evening, you may explore local markets like Gul Mandi or Nirala Bazaar, known for traditional Paithani sarees, Himroo textiles, handicrafts, and souvenirs.

Day 3: Ellora Caves, Grishneshwar Temple & Aurangabad Sightseeing

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day excursion to the magnificent Ellora Caves, located approximately 30 kms (45 minutes) from Aurangabad.

Ellora is unique for its seamless integration of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain cave temples carved into the basalt cliffs. Explore the highlight of the site, the awe-inspiring Kailasa Temple, a monolithic structure carved entirely out of a single rock, representing Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva.

Continue to explore selected Buddhist caves with large prayer halls and intricate carvings, as well as Jain caves known for their detailed artwork and symmetry.

En route, visit the sacred Grishneshwar Temple, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas and an important pilgrimage site.

Proceed to Daulatabad Fort, a massive hilltop fortress known for its ingenious defense system, narrow passages, and panoramic views. Adventurous guests may walk partway up the fort for a closer experience.

Later, return to Aurangabad and visit Bibi Ka Maqbara, often called the “Mini Taj Mahal,” built in the Mughal architectural style.

Continue to Panchakki, showcasing an advanced medieval water management system used to operate a grinding mill.

If time permits, also visit the Aurangabad Caves, offering a quieter experience and scenic views over the city.

Return to the hotel after a full day of sightseeing.

Day 4: Aurangabad to Mumbai by Train

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to the railway station for your return journey to Mumbai.
