Day 1: Bhubaneswar - Puri (65kms)
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your driver and guide to begin the sightseeing tour of Bhubaneswar. You will visit the Lingaraja Temple, an 11th-century temple that is considered one of the finest examples of Hindu temple architecture. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures that beautifully fuse sculpture and architecture. The Mukteshwara Temple is another ornate temple in Bhubaneswar that dates back to the 7th-8th century AD. It features intricate carvings of deities that display the influence of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain styles of architecture. You will also visit the Parashurameshwara Temple, a small yet richly decorated shrine of Shiva that was built in the 7th century and is considered one of the best examples of the Orissa style of temple architecture.
Afterward, you will visit Dhauli, where Mauryan Emperor Ashoka the Great renounced warfare and embraced the teachings of Buddha after his victory over the Kingdom of Kalinga. You will also visit the Peace Pagoda, known as Shanti Stupa, which was built in the early 1970s by the Japanese. You will then continue your drive to Puri, where you will check in to your hotel and stay overnight.
Day 2: Puri
After breakfast at the hotel, you will take an excursion to visit Chilika Lake, the second largest brackish water lagoon in the world after the New Caledonian barrier reef. The lake is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds on the Indian sub-continent and is home to a number of threatened species of plants and animals. You will take a pleasant boat ride amidst the colorful migratory birds and the quaint water.
You will then drive back to Puri and visit the Konark Sun Temple, a 13th-century temple that is constructed in the form of a chariot with 24 wheels and is heavily decorated with symbolic stone carvings. The temple is led by a team of six horses and was built from oxidizing weathered ferruginous-colored sandstone by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. The temple is one of the most renowned temples in India and is a World Heritage Site as a cultural property under categories (i). You will also visit Pipili, the applique work village, and the Raghurajpur artisan village. Further, you will visit Ramchandi Temple and Chandrabhaga Beach.
You will also visit the world-famous Lord Jagannath Temple, although non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple sanctum. You will have the rest of the time to relax on the beach. Overnight at hotel.
