The city of forts was founded by a Muslim ruler Firozshah Tughlaq in 1354 A.D. With the excavations of Agroha, Banawali and Kunal the pre-Harappan settlements were discovered, bringing to us the very first images of pre-historic times. The construction work of the Hisar city started in the year 1354 A.D. under the personal supervision of Firoz Shah himself who stayed here for a long time. The fort-city had four gates, which were subsequently named as the Delhi Gate to the North, Mori Gate to the East, the Nagori Gate to the South and Talaqi Gate to the West.
Visit Ancient Site Of Agroha believed to be the capital of the legendry king, Maharaja Agrasena of the Agrawal community. A small town in itself, Argroha, was situated on the trade route between Taxila and Mathura. Excavations on this site have led to discoveries of many coins including 4 Indo-Greek, one punched marked and 51 coins of Agrodaka. The discovery of the coins of Agreya Janapada (Republic) during the excavations and its ancient name Agrodaka in literature are sufficient to prove it being the headquarters of a Republic. The archaeological excavations revealed a fortified township and continuous habitation from 4th century BC to 14th century AD. Apart from the residential and community houses, made of baked bricks, the remains of a Buddhist stupa and a Hindu temple existing side by side indicated co-existence and respect of communal harmony.
Feroz Shah's Palace And Tahakhanas the then Sultan of Delhi Firoz Shah Tughlaq (1351-1388) had constructed this palace. Its strong structure built out of rubble masonry with thick lime plaster made it survive many centuries. The design inspiration of its arches and pillars are believed to be taken from Hindu temples. The palace complex consists of an open courtyard surrounded by two and three-storeyed structures. A passage with steps leading to the terrace is embedded in the massive western wall of the palace. This passage was most possibly meant for guarding the roofs of the palace. It has several strongholds with hollow cores and has a pillared hall connected with other rooms and cells of the palace. The red sandstone structures on the eastern side of the palace and a lotus tank on the terrace, however, are of much later origin.
Ancient Site Of Rakhigarhi one of the five biggest townships of Harappan Civilization is located in Rakhighari, Hisar and Dholavira in Gujarat. The other four are Harappa, Mohenjo-daro and Ganveriwal in Pakistan. Five interconnected mounds spread in a huge area to form the Rakhigarhi's unique site. Two mounds, out of five, were thickly populated. This site was excavated by the Archeological Survey of India. The archaeological excavations revealed the mature Harappan phase represented by planned townships having mud-brick as well as burnt-brick houses with a proper drainage system. The ceramic industry represented by red ware, which included dish-on-stand, vase, jar, bowl, beaker, perforated jar, goblet and 'handis' (pans). Other antiquities included blades; terracotta and shell bangles; beads of semiprecious stones, terracotta, shell and copper objects; animal figurines, toy cart frame and wheel of terracotta; bone points; inscribed steatite seals and sealings. The excavations have yielded a few extended burials, which certainly belong to a very late stage, may be the medieval times.
